PVmed’s president Dr. Yao Lu was invited to give a speech in the 2020 life and health forum in Jiashan held by the Zhejiang province government. Dr. Lu showed the audiences with vivid examples of how the most leading medical AI brain can change the industry.
The forum aimed to promote the talent acquisition and technology innovation within Yangtze Delta, ensuring related projects successfully developed. Over 30 medical academicians, national-level talents, and over 100 specialists, entrepreneurs, investors attended. Lianhui Zhang, the academician of American Academy of Microbiology and national-level talent, Xu Zhang, chairman of Guoqian Medical Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., Hui Zhen, deputy dean of Zhejiang Medical Device Evaluation Center were keynote speakers to explore the current development and future trend of medical device industry.

Dr. Lu, professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Sun Yat-sen University, as well as founder of PVmed, shared his thoughts on the power of Artificial Intelligence in assisting medicine. He analyzed the current medical situations and pointed out that medical institutions are isolated from each other, meaning there is a lack of standardized diagnosis guidance and data sharing and it partly leads to medical resources imbalance. To address the issues, Dr. Lu proposed the solution - applying AI in different level hospitals to empower the entire process of cancer diagnosis and treatment, including screening, diagnosis, treatment delivery, and follow up. AI can democratize medical knowledge as it is capable of learning from human expertise and then apply them to those where the knowledge and skills are limited. By establishing AI-based guidance and standard processing with data-driven procedures, the capabilities of primary institutions will be significantly improved. As a result, the efficiency and effectiveness at all level hospitals can be positively changed as a whole, alleviating the medical resource constraints.

Founding the PVmed in 2017 was not one of those spur-of-the-moment decisions, but it is a part of the long-term goal for him. Dr. Lu was majored in mathematics and has been researching on medical image analysis, machine learning, computer-aided diagnosis, and other related fields since college, with almost 20 years of experience in medical artificial intelligence and product development. After returning to China, he decided to turn researches into practical applications to benefit patients by lowering the cost and improving diagnosis and treatment accuracy and efficiency in healthcare. That is why he started PVmed. He and PVmed has developed AI-based multimodality medical images analysis solutions, which cover radiology, radiotherapy, surgery and other related fields.
Besides new products of the life and health industry launched, roadshows were also held in the forum. The discussions focused on those projects selected under high standards, which has great potential in the future market. Other forms like talkfest of was followed to further explore the in-depth business cooperation between enterprise and Jiashan with regard to talents and innovations.
